An Exit

Wedding planning, work travel and running a gazillion errands is the name of the game around here so that leaves little brain power or desire to post.  So I will just pop in with this quick story that I want to remember.

Neal and I have been discussing wedding ceremony music the last couple of days.  So this is our conversation today on gchat.

me:

Neal:  you want that at the wedding?
 me:  maybe as we exit
what do you think?

 Neal:  maybe

January.

This month has been super low-key, and I've been missing this face.
and this one.
to be honest all of these faces.
Family Portrait December 2011
And just for kicks.
 Our "official" photo.
If Neal were to run for an elected office we would be set (but he thinks he looks like a total goober). The only thing missing are my pearls.

We've made it to church every Sunday this month! It has been awesome. There is nothing better than hearing the man you love sing and worship. We also FINALLY joined the young couples Sunday school class, which is made up of around 30 couples. We are excited to meet new friends and start our marriage with a strong foundation. Thus far, the lessons have been on Team Work in Marriage and we've learned a lot. After church and Sunday school, Neal and I discuss the lesson and how we work as a team and how we can improve our roles on our "team". God is Good!

January has also kicked off some new obsessions.

1. Downton Abbey. Do you watch? I can't get enough. The PBS app is now prominently displayed on my iPad. Do you remember the movie "She's Having a Baby" with Kevin Bacon?  Well, Elizabeth McGovern or "Cora" in Downtown Abbey, was the wife. Remember, this scene? I do. It took me forever to connect those dots.

2. "Saving Your Marriage Before it Starts"
Read It. We are reading it for our pre-marital counseling. My pastor growing up recommended it.

3. PURE Austin
We got a Groupon for 10 passes to visit to this gym that bills itself as an "indoor gym for outdoor people".  Compared to our bare bones gym we usually go to, this place blows our minds. We even closed the place down on Friday night. Winners.

4. Pinterest. I know. I finally jumped on board. It is as time consuming and amazing as I imagined.

New Year's Eve Wedding

One of my best friends from college got married on NYE in Austin, and it was such a special way to ring in the New Year.  Erin and I met our Sophomore year at Ole Miss, pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma together, lived together our Senior year and three years later moved to DC at the same time.  We have remained so close through the years and still share so much even 1200 miles away.  Erin met Mike our first year living in DC, and from the beginning his pursuit of her was special and sweet.  It was incredible to watch your best friend fall in love.

Erin and Mike's big day was filled with AMAZINGNESS from the weather (70's in December) for their outdoor ceremony to the perfection of the vows they wrote for one another.  It was such a special event to be a part of, sharing the love of two made for one another. There is no doubt Mike will take care of my best friend for the rest of their lives. After all these years Erin and I can't believe we were engaged at the same and both getting married within four months of each other!

The bride still radiating beauty after hours of dancing.
 Happy New Year!
Welcome 2012!

Christmas 2011 Home Tour

Attempting to enjoy Christmas all month long, I tried to get a jump on decorating early. We started projects the week after Thanksgiving but as hard as I/we tried it seems like more could be done. A unanimous decision was made, also early on, that with lack of space and holiday travels we would go sans Christmas Tree once again. Next year will be different, hopefully.

My FAVORITE THING this year is the Santa Claus a little elf painted.  Neaelf did an awesome job and even painted one for his parents to enjoy at their house. For full tutorial on the Santa inspiration visit Bower Power.
My Second FAVORITE THING, an idea from Barefoot Daydreams, to display Christmas Cards. LOVE.
I have never claimed to be original in my decorating!
2009 Christmas Card picture with hand sewn ornaments by my Grandmother in a vase.

2010 Christmas card and a peek of pictures of from 1984.  My Mom dressed us in matching pajamas for our Christmas pictures we were eight, four and two.

Reminders of the Season as walk out the door.
For twelves months the door has been bare, I am so happy to finally have a wreath on the door to welcome you home.
Blessings to all this Christmas Season!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulder.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Might God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

26.2 Rock N' Roll-San Antonio

Day three post marathon and I am stilling walking down stairs backwards and my big toe is still bruised but it was worth it. I fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7).  My Mom told me before the race that my grandfather use to tell her "Work hard and when you think you have worked hard enough, work a little harder!" This was my race montra.

Start time for the marathon was 7:30am and it was HUMID!  After kisses, good luck's, and hugs from Mom and Neal I weaved through the masses to my assigned coral, coral 10.

My game plan was to not start out to fast, get in a groove and try not to walk until mile 20.  For the first mile I missing my Ipod; Beyonce', Katy Perry, Bob Marley, Dave Matthews Band, Kesha, Josh Turner and RENT all make great running buddies.  At mile two one runner was already on a gurnie recieving medical attention so I quickly forgot about music turning my attention to prayer.  I prayed for the injured athlete, all the athletes running, for safety during the race and praising God that thousand of us were healthy enough to be able to participate.  Miles 3-4 were downtown, we ran pass The Alamo and the crowd support was awesome and motivating.
Miles 5-7 were uneventful.  At mile 8 I saw Mom and Neal! It is the BEST sight to see faces you know and love in the sea of fans.  There words of encouragement and high fives carried me through the next few miles, along with my S'mores Balance bar.  S'more bars of my new love for nutrition, they are delicious!
At mile 11 we split from half marathoners, surprisingly I didn't have the urge to go the shorter route, but this is when the course got a little boring.  It was the beginning of an out and back that last from mile 11-20.  At my mile 13, the winner ran by the other way (he was on mile 19 or 20), not to long after that the first female ran by.

Miles 15-20 were a mental fight, I wanted to walk but I kept passing people so I didn't want them to pass me back so I kept running.  Mile 17 was my first Gu EVER.  I was nervous that I would throw up, so I chased it with two cups of cytomax and got a ity bity boost of energy.  By mile 22, my run turned into more of a shuffle.  Someone had a sign that read "Everyday I'm Shufflin" which made me laugh but it was a struggle not to walk.  I took full advantage of every aid station walking through the volunteers handing out water, spounges, tongue depressors with vasoline, cytomax and gu. Mile 23 another gu and mile 24 is a blur and mile 25 I walked a little bit.

FINALLY I got to mile 26 and saw a big sign that said "Go Elizabeth" held by the best looking guy.  He ran with me for a minute and told me the finish line was just around the corner.  As I rounded the corner, I saw my Mom and high fived her.  This all gave me the boost to run up an incline (not cool) and cross the finish line actually running!!!!  It was an unbelieveable feeling to stop running and get the medal.  My first thought was it really is not ever necessary to do that again, but was awesome to complete!  You can read here and here it has been on my list to do for a while and see here an update to the countdown to 3-0.

FINISHER!  Offical time: 4:16:32
The best things about running a marathon:
                      1. You get surprised with a hour and half massage, Thank you Neal!!!
                      2. You get to eat anything you want.
                      3. You get to see ladies who are pregnant running with "Baby on Board" signs on thier back.
                      4. You get to see and hear all the inspirational stories of other athletes and the path that  lead
them to want to accomplish this goal.

Next race, five mile Turkey Trot Thanksgiving Day! Gobble, Gobble.
